Summary: The Estacada Library event Saturday will include discussions
of other novels, storytelling and live music

Robin Cody, an award-winning author whose books include "Ricochet
River," a coming-of-age novel set in Estacada, will be a featured
guest Saturday at Estacada Library's open house.

The 10 a.m.-to-5 p.m. event heralds National Library Week, which
begins Sunday, sponsored by the American Library Association. For
Saturday's open house, Cody will read from "Ricochet River," which
the Oregon Cultural Heritage Committee selected in January for a list
of 100 Oregon Books written during the span of the state's history
and considered important.

The novel has faced fierce challenges in several Oregon school
districts -- the North Clackamas and the West Linn-Wilsonville
districts among them -- because some parents say it is vulgar and
inappropriate for the classroom.

Other events Saturday will include readings and discussions of "The
Brazen Serpent Chronicles: Talon of Light," a fantasy novel by R.
Dennis Baird of Estacada; and the coming-of-age novel "Cuba 15" by
Nancy Osa of Eagle Creek.

There will also be storytelling by Ken Iverson, Rick Huddle,
Kathryn Hurd and Skip Blamer.

Live music will be performed by a trio of young local musicians --
Annie Triska, Max Bryk and Leon Cotter -- playing a variety of
instruments, including piano and saxophone.

There is no charge for Saturday's event. Refreshments will be
served. For performance times and other information, call the library
at 503-630-8273.
